Important information

What to wear

Cocktail and colourful! After being asked for further clarification here are some ideas: suits, chinos and a shirt, ties, bowties, dresses of any length, a hat if you like!

It will cool down in the evening and some of the wedding will be on grass so please bear this in mind if you’re wearing heels.

Children and partners

Due to limitations on numbers, we are unfortunately only able to invite children and partners who are coming from overseas and the east coast. We really hope this isn’t too much of an inconvenience for anyone. We are also very happy to try and organise childcare on the day so the parents can have a bit more fun – let us know if you’re interested!

Thursday and Saturday events

Thursday and Saturday are an opportunity to spend some relaxed time together at some of our favourite places.

Getting there on the day

We have organised buses on the day of the wedding and for Thursday night. Please let us know in your RSVP if you would like to be picked up and where you are staying so we can let you know what time they will be coming by. We will publish this information here closer to the date when the bus itinerary is finalised.

If you are driving yourself to the venues here are map links to Shelter Brewing Co. and Eagle Bay Brewing Co. and Yallingup Beach.

Gifts

Thank you, but no gifts please. We are fortunate to have everything we need, and know that weddings (particularly those away from home) are expensive affairs. All we want is you!

Getting there

Our wedding will be in the South West of Western Australia – one of the most beautiful parts of the world we’ve been to!

Perth is the nearest airport and it’s about a three hour drive from there to Eagle Bay.

Perth Airport is delightfully small so car hire is only a few minutes walk from arrivals. For those planning to stay longer you can get a cheaper rate by catching a taxi to a car hire company just outside the airport.

There’s also a coach service from Perth Airport to Dunsborough (the closest small town to the wedding) operated by South West Coach Lines. Plus, by the time of the wedding, there’ll be a new train link from the airport to Perth city centre for those wanting to spend some time there before coming south.

Accommodation

Although we usually love to sleep under the stars in our roof top tent, we thought camping for our wedding was probably a step too far!

Our wedding is based around the Eagle Bay area on the Cape Naturaliste headland. Eagle Bay has some larger holiday houses which are available to rent but about 10 minutes drive down the road is the small town of Dunsborough which has a much wider range of accommodation options plus a supermarket, shops, restaurants and cafes.

A further 10 minutes drive from Dunsborough takes you to the amazing Yallingup beach which also has holiday houses to rent and is where we’ll be staying ourselves for a few days after the wedding!

About 30 minutes from Eagle Bay is the larger town of Busselton with even more accommodation options, lots to do and another great beach, however we personally prefer the areas above.

Private Properties is a local holiday house website with lots of options that aren’t listed on Airbnb or Stayz.

Lastly, some of the local hotels (like the Pullman at Bunker Bay) don’t show up on comparison websites so you may need to search for hotels in the area and book direct.

Things to do

These are some of our favourite places in the area (with map links). If you’re interested in recommendations further afield in Western Australia please let us know as we’ve spent lots of time there!

Beaches

Bunker Bay – Beautiful beach with calm turquoise water, good for swimming and lifeguards too. There’s also a restaurant there (Bunkers Beach House) which you can park next to.

Yallingup – The view on the drive down to Yallingup beach is possibly our favourite in the area. This is a mainly surfer’s beach but also has safe swimming in the lagoon at the southern end. Lots of facilities – a café, showers, playground and barbecues. It’s where we’ll be hanging out on the Saturday – come join us!

Eating and drinking

Bunbury farmer’s market - For those with cooking facilities drop into the farmer’s market on the highway just before Bunbury. It only sells local produce and you’ll find all of the organic foods and cheese board supplies your inner city hipster desires.

Merchant & Maker, Dunsborough – Nice café for coffee, breakfast or lunch.

Shelter Brewing Co., Busselton – Modern brewery with great beer, good food and a phenomenal sunset over the jetty. See you there on the Thursday!

Wild Hop – Hipster local brewery with good food.

Wineries – Although we’re more beer than wine people you might like to check out Vasse Felix, Howard Park and Juniper as a start. We have friends that know lots about wine if you’d like more recommendations.

Activities

Busselton jetty – For a few dollars you can walk out 1.8km (1.1 miles) over the water along Busselton Jetty – the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere! There is also a small train that takes you the length of the jetty for those who rather go on wheels.

The Cape to Cape walking track – Although we wouldn’t recommend walking the whole of this 123km multi-day track over the summer, it runs along some amazing coastline, so do a small section if you can. One of the easiest and most beautiful is from Cape Naturaliste lighthouse to Sugarloaf rock (3.5km (2.4 miles) one way, parking available at both ends).

Sugarloaf rock – Lovely coastal views, again, great for sunset.

Wellington Dam-Gnomesville-Dardenup bakery detour: if you've got time to spare on the drive down from Perth (or back up) and don't mind going a little out of the way then head to these local secrets. The mural at Wellington Dam is worth a look, Gnomesville has to be seen to be believed and the sausage roll at Dardenup is particularly good. Reverse the order if you are going on the way up to Perth!

Rottnest Island - If you are bridging your trip with a stay in Perth, a day trip to Rottnest Island is a must. Pack your sunscreen and swimmers, hire a bike on the island to explore the beaches, and get a selfie with a quokka.

Yanchep National Park - For those who like wildlife this small national park about a 45 minute drive north of Perth is a chance to see kangaroos and koalas up close.
